Answer: Each patient should understand he/she must establish a personalized regimen through experimentation. On average we recommend removing the prosthesis once a month for cleaning, however there are instances when daily removal is necessary and where several months is also appropriate. If the prosthesis is a shell eye (fit over and existing damaged eye) removal is required every evening before going to sleep. At a minimum it is recommend having your prosthesis professionally cleaned and polished by Midwest Eye Laboratories twice per year.
